Design Director • 2008 - Present
I provide creative leadership to a team of three designers. I currently art direct and design Medical Economics, Managed Healthcare Executive and Drug Topics magazines. Medical Economics is the bi-monthly flagship brand for UBM Medica, our life sciences division. I'm currently focused on product innovation and exploring the relationship between design and content. I also manage a supporting off-shore designer in India. During my tenure with UBM, formerly Advanstar Communications Inc., I've managed our team of publication designers, recruited and coached talent and served as creative lead on many redesigns. For a time, I also worked in a client-facing custom media group creating promotional products for established life science brands that were subject to layers of med/legal review.

I served Ohio Magazine, its travel and tourism custom publishing and related magazine titles that included Long Weekends magazine and Cincy magazine. I managed two other art director/designers and a roster of statewide contributing photographers within a defined annual budget. While there, I successfully redesigned both the Ohio Magazine's logotype and the magazine overall.
Rob has one of the most finely-tuned minds for the analysis of audience and message prior to design execution. I was consistently impressed by his ability to articulate the 'why' of his design decisions and how ‘spot on’ his rationale was in swaying clients.
